Analytical Approaches to Film


Genre Analysis - Identifying the genre of a film by looking at conventions, the genre of a film is identifiable by the techniques used that other films of the same genre also use such as the types of shots, colours used and even music

Content Analysis - The advertising used to promote the film and how it is effective, this includes the techniques used to create interest in the film and how said techniques relate to and are similar to the effects used in the film

Narrative Analysis - The story of the film and the message it is trying to convey, how do the techniques used relate to the story and help it tell the story that it is trying to tell its audience

Reception Study - The response of audiences to the film, what are their opinions on it and what did they take away from it from how they interpreted it

Fan Study - People who enjoy a specific film series or genre of films
